Makkah to Taif distance and the Al Hada road

Taif is about 87 km east of Makkah by road. Most of the way is Highway 15, which leaves Makkah, passes the Miqat at Wadi Muhrim and climbs the Al Hada mountain to Taif. The climb is the famous part: 93 bends that take you up to about 2,000 m at Al Hada, with wide views over the valley. Taif sits about 1,800 m high, so it is much cooler than Makkah.

  • Time. 1.5 to 2 hours each way, depending on traffic and fog.
  • Fog and bends. Fog is common near the top. Our drivers know the road and drive at a safe speed.
  • Other road. If the Al Hada road is closed, drivers use the longer road through As-Sayl al-Kabir.

Miqat on the way back: Qarn al-Manazil

If you want to do Umrah when you return to Makkah from Taif, you must enter ihram at the Miqat. For people coming from Taif, the Miqat is Qarn al-Manazil.

  • Wadi Muhrim. On the Al Hada road, about 10 km north-west of Taif. This is the Miqat on the usual route back.
  • As-Sayl al-Kabir. The main Qarn al-Manazil mosque, on the Taif to Makkah road about 80 km from Makkah.
  • Tell us when you book. Your driver stops at the Miqat and waits while you get ready. Bring your ihram clothes with you.

For questions about ihram rules, ask your scholar or group leader.
